Mosaic Heron

$95.00

Mosaics have such an allure. For purses I have used my own “tug and cut” technique. For my framed mosaic tiles, I wanted to use real tesserae made of polymer clay. I spent days extruding thin strands of clay which I cured. These strands I then cut to size as I create the picture.

When I first extruded the strands they were 6 mm in diameter…then 3 mm…then 2mm (which is the size used for this mosaic). As the tesserae strands became thinner, more details were possible. Which meant more shades and hues could be used…many more strands were needed!

As “grout” I use translucent liquid clay which adds a sheen (while also making photography difficult!)

Without the frame, the signed tile is 4” by 4.”
